Wabash Independent Networks (WIN) digital video and cable customers in Southern Illinois are seeing some big channel lineup changes in their choices for broadcast channels.
JDTVB Southern Illinois Correspondent James Hampsten reports that the company's former offerings, which included local stations from Evansville, Terre Haute, Paducah-Harrisburg-Cape Girardeau and St. Louis, have been heavily modified because of the FCC's non-duplication rules.
For example, in Flora, where WIN operates the cable system, the only Evansville station now carried is independent Local 7 WTVW. St. Louis' KDNL (ABC), KMOV (CBS), KTVI (Fox) and KSDK (NBC) are now the only affiliates of those networks available to viewers. WSIU out of Carbondale is the PBS choice.
Digital video customers' local network choices will now depend upon where they live. According to the company's website, these are those lineups:
CLAY & MARION counties (St. Louis Network Affiliates) | RICHLAND, JASPER & EFFINGHAM counties (Terre Haute Network Affiliates) | EDWARDS, WABASH & WAYNE counties (Evansville Network Affiliates) |
---|---|---|
KMOV (CBS) - ch. 104 KSDK (NBC) - ch. 105 KDNL (ABC) - ch. 106 KTVI (Fox) - ch. 115 | WTWO (NBC) - ch. 102 WAWV (ABC) - ch. 103 WTHI (CBS) - ch. 110 WTHI (Fox) - ch. 111 | WEVV (CBS) - ch. 112 WEVV (Fox) - ch. 113 WFIE (NBC) - ch. 114 WEHT (ABC) - ch. 125 |
As in Flora, all of these areas will continue to receive WTVW and WSIU.
And then there's Noble, Ill., where the lineup is even more different. Customers there have WFIE and WEHT from Evansville for NBC and ABC, respectively, but KTVI for Fox and WTHI for CBS.
Confused yet? You're not alone. We're still trying to figure out why St. Louis' CW affiliate, KPLR, has been removed entirely. It seems to make no sense, given the fact that Terre Haute has no CW affiliate, and Evansville's - WAZE-CW19 - barely exists.

James is making efforts to get further explanation for the changes from WIN general manager Jeff Williams, and as soon as we have more information, we will bring it to you.
