Dial Global, NBC News to debut new 24-hour radio news network

UPDATE, 2:20 p.m.: Corrected the last paragraph. Most CNN Radio News affiliates are now expected to transition to the "new" NBC news service, not CBS.

Nationwide radio syndicator Dial Global announced this morning that it will soon begin distributing a brand-new 24-hour news network in partnership with NBC News.

The all-new NBC News Radio will bring listeners live simulcasts of breaking news from NBC and MSNBC, along with reports from top NBC News correspondents including Chuck Todd, Jim Miklaszewski, Andrea Mitchell, Pete Williams and Lisa Myers. NBC News Radio will also feature Brian Williams, anchor and managing editor of NBC Nightly News, and David Gregory, host of Meet the Press.

No date for the premiere of the new network has been announced.

"This alliance presents NBC News an opportunity to deliver our high-quality journalism to even more news consumers across the country through the expansive Dial Global network," said NBC News president Steve Capus. "NBC News is already America's number-one news network – now, through this new 24-hour radio news channel we can further expand our unparalleled reach and audience."

"Through our new partnership with NBC News, we are proud to continue in the tradition of defining great moments for radio listeners across our country," said Spencer Brown, co-president and CEO of Dial Global.

"Millions of Americans start and end their day with NBC News," said Bart Tessler, EVP, News & Talk Programming, Dial Global. "We are pleased to bring more great NBC News content to an even wider audience 24/7."

In sort-of-related news, Dial Global has also told its affiliate stations that carry CNN Radio News that the CNN-branded programming will go away on Apr. 1.  It's expected that most CNN Radio News affiliates will transition to the NBC brand.

KMOX's overnight show going national: Overnight America to be syndicated by Dial Global

A St. Louis-based overnight radio show is going into national syndication.

Radio syndicator Dial Global and CBS Radio's KMOX-1120 announced yesterday that KMOX's Overnight America with Jon Grayson will be available nationally starting next Monday, Jan. 30.

The show, which debuted about three years ago, according to Radio Ink, is already carried by CBS stations KDKA in Pittsburgh and WCCO-AM in Minneapolis, and can also be heard on the Radio.com mobile app. No word yet on whether it will come to the Tri-State directly, but since KMOX's signal reaches much of the area already during the nighttime hours, it's not hard to find.

I happen to be a fan of the program, which airs from midnight to 5 a.m. Central time. Grayson covers a variety of topics on each show and always makes it interesting. Last night, for example, Grayson talked about the death of former LAPD detective Philip Vannatter, who was one of the lead investigators on the O.J. Simpson murder case. The wealth of anecdotes Grayson shared captured my interest, and I ended up listening for quite a while, as I often do.

If you're having trouble sleeping some night, give the show a try. I think you might just like it ... and maybe, just maybe, if one of our local talk stations is looking for something different for the overnight hours, it'll come here.
